What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture has been practiced in the Far East for thousands of years.

The philosophy behind the treatment is that the body's energy flows along so-called "meridians," which are curves or pathways which circulate around the body. This energy flow is called CHI (pronounced, "chee"). When the CHI is impaired or interrupted, illness occurs.

The acupuncturist inserts very thin needles or focused laser beams at various points on suspected meridians to restore the CHI and allow the body's energy balance to be restored, and the illness removed. The flow of energy can be impaired or interrupted either through emotional upset, physical trauma, poor diet, or stress. The acupuncturist examines the underlying cause and its effect on the body, and then determines the most appropriate treatment.
